Best for STEM Learning – Boon Building Bundle with Pipes, Cogs, and Tubes

Best for STEM Learning
Boon Pipes, Cogs, and Tubes

Best for Recognition
Munchkin Letters and Numbers Bath Toys
Learning letters and numbers is much more fun when they float and stick to the tub wall.

The Munchkin Letters and Numbers Bath Toys set contains 36 pieces – 26 letters and ten numbers. These colorful foam letters and numbers float and stick to the bathtub wall – and kids –  when wet. We chose these foam letters and numbers because they are durable and can be used for a variety of learning purposes.

Most preschool children are starting to take an interest in their letters and numbers. You can use flashcards, but learning is much more meaningful when you make it hands-on. Foam letters and numbers give your child a tactile experience, and he or she can easily manipulate them to form simple words.

What to Consider When Buying Bath Toys for Preschoolers

Types of Toys for Preschoolers

One of the biggest factors to consider when choosing bath toys for your little one is the type of toys your child enjoys. Think about the kinds of toys he or she usually enjoys.

There are bath toys for all types of personalities and learners. Try to find bath toys that fit your child’s favorite types of play.

Material and Durability

If the toys are made of plastic, you always want to choose BPA and phthalate-free materials. Even older kids may put things in their mouths, so it is still best to select non-toxic materials.

You also want to look for durable materials. Always choose materials that dry quickly to prevent mold and mildew. Toys that can be cleaned easily in the dishwasher are also a plus.

Functions and Educational Features

The best bath toys will have multiple functions to allow for many types of play. Many toys will also have educational features, such as motor-skills development or sensory play.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I keep bath toys from molding?

Moldy bath toys can be dangerous for your child. Toys with holes that can take in water are the most likely to mold. If the toy doesn’t need to take in water, i.e., it isn’t a squirting toy, then you can use a little hot glue to cover the hole and keep it from filling with water.

It is also a good idea to put your kid’s bath toys in the dishwasher regularly.

If your kid’s bath toys get moldy, you can soak them overnight in a solution of 1 cup of bleach or white vinegar mixed into a gallon of water. Both will get the mold out, but vinegar is a more natural solution.  After soaking, toss them in the dishwasher.

Always check information from the toy’s manufacturer for other cleaning tips.

When should I introduce bath toys?

Sometime between the ages of six and eight months, your child will start to sit independently. You may want to use a seat in the bath to keep your child safe. Your child will take an interest in playing and will enjoy being in the water. This is a great time to introduce bath toys. Your baby will have fun exploring and playing with some fun floating toys.

What types of toys are not suitable for water?

Wooden toys should not be put in the water. Water can cause these toys to expand and warp. You should also avoid putting any toys with stickers in the water as it can loosen the stickers and make them come off.

Battery-powered toys that are not specifically made for water use should never be used in water. These toys can take in water and damage the batteries and wiring.

Since water can damage many things through mold, it is best not to put any valuable or collectible toys in the bath.
